If you are into the world of creating digital music with programs such as Ableton Live, Steinberg Cubase, Nuendo, Cakewalk, Garage Band etc., etc. it's no doubt that you are aware of the powerful virtual tools and instruments know as VST's and VSTi's.

Here I have compiled some of my favorite free VST's that I have collected over years and would like to share with you. I hope you use them wisely and to their greatest capability because the possibilities are truly endless!

A buffer-sampling, stuttering glitchbox in the tradition of DFX's Buffer override. It features integrated modulation LFOs, XY pad and a useless-but-cool-looking wave scope.

The mother of glitch-noise-monsters, HBeast is a 5-part parallel processing speaker-endangering multicrapfx shredder. Features assorted colours, (almost) too-hard-to-read gui and bad attitude.

By far one of the VERY best VST Plug-in's you can get! This is a REPOST from Illformed.org's VST Plug-in's page

What is it?

Glitch is a VST plug-in effect for Windows-based systems running a VST 2.3 compatible host.

What does it do?

Glitch chops up your audio in real-time and applies a variety of effects which can either be chosen at random, manually sequenced, or a mixture of both. The sounds it generates range from quite subtle to extremely bizarre, depending on how much you tweak the controls.

Installation

Open the ZIP archive using a utility such as 7-Zip, then copy the file dblue_Glitch_v1_3.dll into your VST plug-ins directory.

Depending on the host you are using, it may also be necessary to re-scan the plug-ins directory or restart the host itself before the new plug-in will appear.

Warning!

Despite being stable for many people, this version of Glitch is still just a prototype and contains a few bugs that I have not managed to fix yet. Depending on how intensively you use the plug-in, you may occasionally run into some problems ranging from quite harmless (a simple error dialog box which can be closed) to quite severe (crashing the host). Some users have reported that Cubase 4 can be particularly bad.

I cannot stress this enough: Please fully test the plug-in before relying on it in any way - especially if you plan to use Glitch in a live performance situation!

Obviously I am working towards fixing everything as soon as possible, but at the moment (and probably for the next few months) this version is the only one available to use.

Video demo

This is just a quick demo video I made to show off some of the features of Glitch. A simple breakbeat sample plays on loop while I tweak various parameters in real time. It’s difficult to see all the details thanks to YouTube’s low res video, but hopefully you get the idea.
